How to Export and Import a Divi Builder Layout

Just like other popular page builders, Divi Builder also offers premade templates. With a template, you can create a beautiful page on your WordPress site in minutes. Elegant Themes (the developer of Divi Builder) uses the term “layout” instead of “template”. Whatever you call it, a Divi Builder layout can save you time in creating a web page. It can also be a savior if you have no idea about the concept of the page you will create.

Divi Builder itself offers more than 1,000 premade layouts in total. Some of them have the same design concept, intended to build a website (not just a web page). Some Divi Builder layouts that have the same design concept are called a Layout Pack, much like Elementor Template Kit. A Divi Builder Layout Pack can consist of 6 to 9 layouts.

While you can use a default layout offered by Divi Builder, you can also use a layout created by a Divi Builder user. If you want, you can also share your work with your colleagues or teammates. Divi Builder allows you to export your page into an external file in a JSON format.

How to export a Divi Builder layout

To export a Divi Builder layout into a JSON file, first, create a post/page and edit it with Divi Builder by clicking Use The Divi Builder.

You will be directed to the front-end editor of the Divi Builder. But before the front-end editor really opens, you will be asked to select one out of three options. Whether you create the page from scratch, from a layout, or by cloning an existing page. Select your choice and create your page. Once you are done, click the two-arrow icon. Give your layout a name and click the Export Divi Builder Layout button.

Wait a moment. Divi Builder will download the layout file for you. You can find the JSON file of your layout on the default download location of your web browser (“Downloads” folder in most cases).

How to import a Divi Builder layout

To import a Divi Builder layout from a JSON file, first, create a new post or page and edit it with Divi Builder. Before the Divi Editor opens, you will be asked whether to create the page from scratch, from a layout or by cloning an existing page. Since you want to import a layout, select CHOOSE A PREMADE LAYOUT option and click the Browse Layouts button.

Click the two-arrow button, followed by the Import button. Click the NO FILE SELECTED to choose a JSON file and click the Import Divi Builder Layout to start importing your layout.

Wait a moment until Divi Builder is done loading your JSON file.

Final words

A Divi Builder layout allows you to create a page on your WordPress site in minutes. You can simply import a layout and replace the default content with your own content. While you can use a layout offered by Divi Builder, you can also import a layout from an external file. Similarly, you can also export your layout into a JSON file and share it with your teammates or colleagues.
